Bridgewater State stretched their winning streak to seven when they picked up an 8-5 win over the University of New England Tuesday night. Senior attack Jill Caramello paced the Bears with two goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Taylor Clancy added two goals.

“We’re working hard at practice, things are coming together,” said Bridgewater State head coach Erika Smith. “To be 7-0 is a big accomplishment and it’s exciting to see the team continuously grow and keep moving forward.”

The win was their closest so far of the season, as they have repeatedly beat teams by double digits.

On Saturday, the Lady Bears played Fitchburg State University in their first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game and won 23-6. Caramello scored a career-high eight goals and had two assists on the night.

“We give 100 percent every practice and that definitely plays into our success too,” said freshman defense Emily Mosca. “We are a very hardworking team.”

Nine different players scored for the Bears throughout the game including freshman midfielder Lauren Geary who had five goals and two assists.

“We’re working together as a team, that’s a big part of it and we’re aggressive,” Geary said. “We hustle and we’re really good on transitions and offense.”

Freshman goalie Chandler Ross has been a surprise for the team as she has picked up three straight wins in net after picking up her first collegiate win in her first career start last Thursday against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

Despite the strong start, Smith knows the team cannot get comfortable in the position that they are in.

“We can always improve on everything,” Smith said. “I never feel like we’re perfect in anything.”.

The Lady Bears look to work off what they started and keep moving forward.

“It’s an exciting time for us and it’s nice to see that the girls are still working hard and improving,” Smith said.

Bridgewater State will compete again on Thursday, April 4, when they host Plymouth State University at 6 p.m.
