Louis: Season 3 (2013)

Louis C.K. is best known for his intelligent, heinously morbid comedy. In his show, Louie, he gets to act out some of his best bits in vivid detail. This season he’s called in some favors from a long list of famous friends, and each episode is dotted with cameos from the likes of Sarah Silverman to Chris Rock. One of the best episodes combines Robin Williams and a room full of crying strippers – just a small taste of the insanity that is Louis. 5 out of 5.

Love Free Or Die (2012)

In this documentary, we follow Gene Robinson who is the first openly gay bishop of the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire. In 2008, Bishop Robinson was barred from the Anglican Communion Conference, solely based on his proclaimed sexuality. This film is an intelligent and interesting look into the process of change within the Anglican Church, while also offering us valuable lessons about love, faith and human connection. 5 out of 5.

Room 237 (2012)

This documentary analyzes various qualities of the 1980 film, The Shining. Since its debut there have been theories about the symbolism, subliminal messages and overall theme of director Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece. The various narrators of this doc present their views on almost every single scene of the film through still frames, slow-motion clips and diagrams that reveal every unsettling detail of this horror classic. Definitely a must-see for film students and horror fans. 5 out of 5.
