CAREER SERVICES OFFER STUDENTS JOB SHADOW OPPORTUNITY

Career Services is offering an exclusive opportunity to Bridgewater State University students to shadow the job of their dreams during winter break. Students may apply online through career links by completing an application and uploading their résumé.

Job shadowing consists of a half-day of touring the organization and observing the day-to-day tasks of the professionals. It is also an opportunity to network within industries.

Laurent Troland, Assistant Director of Career Services, played an integral role in the formation of this opportunity for Bridgewater State students.

“I encourage students to participate because it is an opportunity to test drive a field of interest to see if it appeals to them, allows for them to learn about potential job and internship opportunities and helps students begin to build their professional network,” Troland said.

Many majors are represented in the shadowing option. For communication studies majors, shadowing is available at BTV, MEDITECH, State Street, and Wells Fargo.

Jeff Fowler, station manager at BTV, is a Bridgewater State graduate who said he has benefited from both sides of this program.

“Many of our shadows return as interns, so this program has great potential,” Fowler said.

Other job shadowing examples include the Department of Corrections for criminal justice majors and for accounting and finance majors, KAF Financial Group and State Street. Social work shadow positions are available at the New Hope and the Key Program.

“All students should get out there and make professional contacts, complete at least one internship, and make the most of their time here to prepare them well for the future,” Troland said.

The application to apply for the winter break job shadowing program is Friday, November 1.
