LILLY’S TRENDS OF THE WEEK

Volunteering

It’s that time of year for bringing family together and being in a food coma for days. But what we do not realize is that some people do not get that experience. This upcoming holiday season, try to volunteer at your local soup kitchen or homeless shelter. They are always looking for volunteers, even if it’s only for a little bit. Helping others is something that keeps the world spinning, so think about lending a hand this holiday season.

Black Friday

Next week is the biggest day of the year for shopaholics. This day is where you don’t get enough sleep and risk getting trampled for great deals. This year, stores are opening doors on Thanksgiving night, instead of the usual early Friday morning. If you are not into the whole waiting in line for hours after you eat your turkey dinner, there’s always Cyber Monday.

The Voice

This is the fifth season for The Voice and it is heating up more each season. Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera came back this season to rejoin Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. You do not need to follow this show from the beginning because it is brand new each season. Haven’t caught up this season? No worries, the voice is rumored to be coming back for a spring 2014 season, with Shakira and Usher to rotate out again with Cee Lo and Christina.

Philippines

After last week’s Haiyan Typhoon destruction of the Philippines, the disaster killed at least 4,200 people and destroyed everything in sight. The World Bank offered $500 million to the Philippines as aid to rebuild buildings that can survive high winds and flooding. The people in this region are seeking all the aid they can get, so if you would like to help, UNICEF is taking donations online or by texting RELIEF to 864233 to donate $10.

Midwest

With the week of natural disaster devastations, the Midwest got hit with tornadoes from left and right. Around 80 tornadoes have been reported, with Illinois the hardest hit. With no more than 10 deaths, 200 people were injured and hundreds had their homes destroyed. Washington, Illinois, was the main target of the tornadoes, where approximately 400 houses were torn apart and severely damaged. If you would like to donate, you can go to the Red Cross website.
