Bridgewater State Bears of the Year: 2013-2014 Season

Men’s Bear of the Year:

Matt Green

Junior, Football

Green exploded in his junior year for a breakout season with the Bears. Green finished the season with 69 catches for 1,315 yards and 16 touchdowns. With his performances, Green broke Bridgewater State single-season records in both receiving yards and touchdowns to become one of the best wide receivers in the country.

Matt Green

Honorable Mentions:

Rob Ruggiero

Senior, Football

In his first season in a Bridgewater State uniform, Ruggiero put on a show playing on the defensive line. Ruggiero led the defense with 12 sacks making a name from himself not only in the area, but around the country.

Joshua Danner-Hicks

Senior, Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field

Danner-Hicks took a leap in his performance last spring season and it continued this winter season. Danner-Hicks performed so well that he was able to take his talents to the national stage as one of the best triple jumpers in the country.

Women’s Bear of the Year:

Jenna Williamson

Senior, Tennis/Basketball

Williamson continued her illustrious Bridgewater State career this year as she dominated on two courts, in tennis and basketball. Williamson led the women’s tennis team to an LEC Tournament championship and finished off her career 38-0 in LEC play over her four years. During the basketball season, Williamson became the all-time leading scorer in Lady Bears’ history as she ended her career with 1,365 points.

Honorable Mentions:

Amber White

Senior, Softball

Last season, White had an outstanding season on the mound, as she went 15-7 and posted a 0.60 earned run average while opponents had a .166 batting average against her. Her pitching performances carried the Lady Bears to a MASCAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Other Recognition: MASCAC All-Conference First Team, MASCAC Pitcher of the Year, MASCAC Tournament MVP, CoSIDA Capital One Academic NCAA Div. III All-District One Team, ECAC Div. III New England All-Star Second Team.

Kacie Sturgeon

Senior, Field Hockey

Sturgeon played well in between the pipes for the Lady Bears all season. Sturgeon went 16-6 and had a 1.24 goals against average and helped the field hockey team reach the ECAC New England Championship.
