Letter from SGA President Kevin Costa

October 9, 2014

Dear BSU Students,

On behalf of the Bridgewater State University Student Government Association, I invite you to participate in a one hour open forum to discuss the recent arrests on our campus in relation to alleged sexual assaults next Tuesday, October 14th at 5 P.M. in the Horace Mann Auditorium.  The Student Government Association is prioritizing this discussion in response to the concerns of our constituents and this open forum is a collaborative effort between the SGA and President Mohler-Faria.

Through this open forum the SGA is hoping to foster a dialogue between students and the administration regarding these alleged sexual assaults and ensure transparency in the future.  Many are not aware of the details surrounding this issue and we feel it is important for students and community members to be informed directly from the administration rather than from news stories and articles being published.  As President Mohler-Faria stated in the email sent out Wednesday, “In the future, we will look to go beyond what is legally required if we determine it is in the best interest of our community.”  From this statement, as well as Chief Strategy Officer, Bryan Baldwin’s statement expressing he is “applauding the students who have voiced their concern,” holding an open forum is the next logical step.  I acknowledge that this is the first of many discussions that need to take place on our campus concerning the subject of sexual assault and violence prevention.  I believe that the SGA and more pertinently, this campus-wide open forum, is the proper conduit to facilitate this initial dialogue.

Sincerely,

Kevin Costa

President, Student Government Association
