The BSU Bears varsity volleyball team traveled to Smith College to compete in the Hall of Fame Invitationals.

The Lady Bears posted a 1-3 record in the tournament, going 0-1 in day one of the tourney, and then splitting the second day’s slate of games. The Bears broke a 9 match losing streak with their first win of the tournament and put forth a very strong effort.

The Bears lost their first game of the tournament, facing Hamilton College, in a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-16, 25-13). Hannah Maymon led the Bears in the match, posting a team-high eight kills as well as seven digs, three aces, a solo block and two assists.

In day two of the tournament, the Bears took care of business against home hosting team Smith College, earning a 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-19) victory. Freshman Christina Jaros played strong as usual, on her way to earning MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors. In the winning match against Smith, Jaros tallied ten kills with a .600 hitting percentage.

Maymon played well for the second straight game of the tournament, posting five kills and a career-high seven aces.

Following their big-time win with a chance to turn things around for their tournament chances, the Bears went on to lose their final match of the night against Trinity College, 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-9, 25-18). The Bears played very hard, but came up just short against some very tough competition.

The Bears will play their final game of the regular season this Saturday against the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). They will do their best to end the season on a high-note after the last few weeks, which have been a tough grind for the team.
