  • Putin Declared Forbes’ Most Powerful Person

For the second year running, Russian President Vladimir Putin was named Forbes’ “World’s Most Powerful Person.” United States President Barack Obama took second place on Forbes’ list for the second consecutive year.

 

  • US Launches 14 Airstrikes Against Syria, Iraq

The United States continued its assault on Islamic State militants this week. The U.S Central Command confirmed there were 14 airstrikes in recent days in Syria and Iraq.

  • Republican Party Dominates Midterms and Senate

The Republican party seized control of the U.S. Senate for the first time in eight years. GOP took seats held by Democrats in Colorado, Iowa, Montana, Arkansas, South Dakota, West Virginia and North Carolina

 

  • Oregon,Washington, D.C. Legalizes Marijuana

Voters in Oregon and Washington, D.C., voted to approve pro-marijuana legalization. In Oregon, the law allows persons 21 years of age or older to legalize personal possession, manufacture and sale of marijuana.

  • Charlie Baker wins Mass. Governor Election

Massachusetts Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker, was declared winner in Mass. Governor race against Attorney General Martha Coakley, a Democrat. Charlie Baker was ahead with 48% of votes, compared with 47% for Martha Coakley.

 

  • Ed Markey Re-Elected in Senate

Democrat Ed Markey has been re-elected to a full six-year term to represent Massachusetts in the United States Senate. Markey defeated Republican opponent Brian Herr on Tuesday.
