  • European Probe Lands on Comet

On Wednesday, the European Space Agency landed a robotic probe on a comet. This landing is a first in space exploration, and the Rosetta spacecraft landed more than 300 million miles away from Earth.

  • Progressive Work for Welfare in Hungary

Right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban instituted a program where unemployed Hungarians must take jobs in communal work programs in order to receive more than the bare minimum in public assistance. According to the New York Times, “Before the program, unemployment in the village was 20 percent… Now, it is 4 percent.”

  • US Troops Deployed in Iraq’s Anbar Province

President Obama authorized the deployment of 1,500 U.S troops to expand Iraqi forces to fight against the Islamic State (IS), also known as ISIS. The deployment doubles the presence of U.S. troops and begins the training of Iraqi forces.

  • Ebola Doctor Cured and Discharged from NYC Hospital

On Tuesday, Dr. Craig Spencer, the last remaining U.S. patient with Ebola, was released from Bellevue Hospital in New York City. He is the eighth Ebola patient in America to recover out of the nine individuals treated in the nation.

  • Ex Navy S.E.A.L. Robert O’Neill Claims to have Killed Osama bin Laden

Robert O’Neill, a 38-year-old ex-Navy S.E.A.L., revealed that he fatally shot Osama bin Laden in a 2011 raid. Robert O’Neill admitted he had fired two rounds into the forehead of bin Laden during the 2011 raid in Pakistan.

  • Mass. Town Tobacco Ban

Westminster, Mass. could become the first town in the United States to ban the sale of tobacco products. The town would ban the sale of products containing tobacco or nicotine, including e-cigarettes. Violations may result in a $300 fine.

  • Massasoit Community College offers RAD Course for Male Students

Massasoit Community College added a new violence-prevention program designed for men. The free three-day course Resisting Aggression Defensively (RAD for Men), teaches participants how to avoid aggressive behavior, why men objectify women and to defuse confrontational situations.

  • Woman Killed Near Bridgewater Center

68-year-old Roberta Harris was struck by a van and killed Monday morning as she crossed Summer Street in Bridgewater. No criminal charges have been filed against the driver.
