The Spring semester has seemed to bring more snow than warmth, contrary to the most expected weather patterns in New England. However, the month of April is a gold mine for BSU and its students.

The list of events that will be going on day-to-day may seem endless. From Greek Week to Springfest, it will be very hard to miss out on any one thing. Speaking of Springfest, BSU will be welcoming a well-known comedian on Thurs. April 23 in the Tinsley Center.

The comedian that will be performing this year at Springfest is Colin Jost. A cast member of Saturday Night Live, Jost is also a head writer for the show.

BSU was able to contact such a well-known comedian through the Program Council. Casey Mulcare, the Coordinator of Student Programming, said, “We work with a middle agent who helps us book our big comedian each year, Concert Ideas.”

Mulcare explained that Jost was a name that immediately jumped out from recognition that they knew students would get excited about.

There is always a struggle in the decision making process, because they must decide between who is popular and who is available to perform. Many popular comedians are either performing specials, at comedy clubs or even working on movies. Another important factor to keep in mind is who students would actually want to come and see.

Mulcare also explained that, “We feel Colin, who is the head writer for SNL as a well touring stand-up comedian, will bring a style of comedy that will appeal to a broad audience and will get students excited about Springfest week.”

Especially during Springfest, BSU students will be wanting something fresh, original and authentic. Jost will be providing that to students when he comes to BSU in a few weeks. BSU has welcomed other well-known comedians in the past.

Mulcare pointed out that, “In the past Program Council and SGA have chosen to bring comedy headliners such as Judah Friedlander, Nikki Glaser, Jim Breuer, Dave Coulier and Gabriel Iglesias. Students at BSU seem to like either the up and coming star or someone on a program that is culturally relevant.”

Springfest is going to be an exciting time for BSU students as they celebrate yet another successful, hard-won year. What better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring than to showcase a comedian for many BSU students to watch and enjoy.

No matter what your preference is pertaining to the many styles of comedy, it is great to watch another individual as they share their own life experiences and turn it into material that makes people laugh.

Amongst all of the other activities that will be going on this year at Springfest, be sure to make your way to the Tinsley Center on Thurs. April 23.
