It was a weekend of success for Bridgewater State University’s track program.

The women’s team accumulated 143 team points at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic. Their closest competition was the host, UMass Dartmouth, finished with 100.

The Bears will try to build off of such a dominating performance. “I am always proud of my athletes for dominating a meet and performing to the best of their ability,” said head coach of women’s track and field, Amy Delgado. “As a team we go into every meet ready to compete and we are always trying to qualify for the post season or get a new personal best.”

Delgado added, “Winning a meet like this is a big confidence boost for everyone and sometimes that is 95% of the battle in Track and Field.”

Junior Ariele Krevosky won the 100-meter hurdles in the competition, finishing in 15.61 seconds. She was one of five BSU women athletes to take the crown of their respected event.

Another junior, Juliana Keene, tossed the javelin 111 feet, nine inches for the furthest throw in the meet.

Sophomore Samantha Richner was victorious in the high jump by rising 5 feet, 0.25 inches. Fellow sophomore Sydney Bennett finished first in the shot put competition by with a toss of 37 feet, 2.25 inches.

Perhaps most impressively, senior Krysta Zbikowski was the winner of the 10,000 meter (6.2 miles) finishing the task at a time of 40:50.38. The time is good enough for fifth best in New England, and led her to receiving the honors of MASCAC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Delgado said, “The success from this meet will absolutely help going forward in our season. We can see where our weak areas are and where are strengths are to help better our chances of another successful Championship meet.”

This weekend, the Bears look to bring their success to the Westfield State Invitational in Westfield, Mass. Saturday @ 10 a.m.
