The Comment will be welcoming it’s new Editor-in-Chief in the fall, Stephanie Dawber, the present News Editor for The Comment. She will be filling the shoes of Kayla Lemay, a senior who will be graduating from BSU.

Dawber double majors in English with a concentration in Writing and Writing Studies and Communications Studies with a concentration in Film, Video and Media. She is also a member of the Commonwealth Honors Program and an active BSULife blogger.

She first joined The Comment the second semester of her freshmen year. Starting off as a volunteer for the paper, she then moved to be a writer until she became the News Editor at the end of the semester.

Dawber applied for the Editor-in-Chief position because she was, and continues to be, very invested in The Comment. She is very passionate about writing and hopes to pursue a career in journalism.

Dawber mentioned that, “I consider myself a ‘people’s person’ and I enjoy conducting interviews. Anyone can reach out and contact me or pitch a story idea.”

She is especially thrilled to start her new position as the Editor-in-Chief because she loves the team of people she currently works with on The Comment. She hopes to meet some new faces in the fall semester.

Tackling tougher stories, such as sexual assaults and the recent incident at the Children’s Center is part of the job as a News Editor, and something Dawber feels is important that students know about.

As far as her expectations and hopes for The Comment in the future, Dawber said, “Next year I want an increased momentum of news stories, as well as maintaining a fact-based agenda.”

In a special thanks, she extends her gratefulness to both Kayla Lemay and Jessica Birthisel for offering the position to her. “I’m going to try my absolute best,” she said.
