Whenever I received clothes as a present as a young boy, I wasn’t as thankful as I should have been. I would have wanted a video game or a toy instead.
Even though I didn’t receive the Playstation game I may have wanted, I still had a roof over my head with a comfortable bed.
As a college student, I now think about how grateful I am to receive clothes as a present on many occasions because a less fortunate person would certainly love to be in my shoes. The circumstances could always be much worse. So, what reason do I have to complain?
Whether you didn’t receive what you wanted or you went through an unfortunate event, you should always be grateful for what you have instead of what you don’t have.
As a matter of fact, it is important to be grateful for everything that life gives you, because gratitude immeasurably defines who you are as an individual.
In order to constantly be grateful, you should practice gratitude. This can be done in many ways. For example, by writing down several things of different types that you are grateful for on a regular basis, you can learn to appreciate what you have.
Personally, I believe it is possible to be grateful for anything at all. For instance, if I am facing a dominant challenge, I am grateful for the opportunity that I had, because whether I succeed or fail, it will teach me many lessons and motivate me to improve.
Being grateful does not only mean giving thanks. Gratefulness can change your life and make you a much more positive person.
Whenever I am grateful for something done by someone who cares, I want to return the feeling. Gratefulness can make you more open, understanding, and helpful to other people.
Gratefulness also has psychological benefits. By reminding yourself of how grateful you are for what you have, you will find a much wider range of happiness. Gratefulness helps you to view the world positively.
Furthermore, these psychological benefits carry over to your health. With more positive emotions, you will be able to get a better night’s sleep. You will also be more motivated to take better care of your food and exercise routines.
Unfortunately, we cannot have everything that we want in life. The world does not work that way. However, we should always be grateful for the many things that we have because the appreciation gives benefits that make us into better people.
So, go outside and get some fresh air. Take a look at the sky and the things surrounding you. Be grateful for being able to live a life in this world because each of us will only be able to live a life once.
