High School; a time where people fought, cried, laughed, and made memories all in one. Over the course of those four years, you would hear people say, “I hate high school and cannot wait to leave, while others would talk about how great high school is and how they will be sad to leave it all someday.
And in the blink of an eye, graduation day comes and you will find yourself saying goodbye to friends, teachers, and mentors as you move onto the next stage in your life.
Looking back, I do wish that I would have known just how special high school was and maybe not wish all those final days away of senior year.
If I was to write a letter to my high school self, the first thing I would say is to not be so stressed about the homework load. Trust me, it is nothing compared to some of these college courses.
Another thing I would say is to simply enjoy the high school experience. Seeing your friends almost everyday of the week for about nine months over time is something that you do not have in college.
Sure, you make new friends and form new bonds with other people, but there are a few best friends that maybe you wish you saw everyday and not just on vacations.
Another thing would be to attend a few sports events, especially football. Those are the times that while you wish you were indoors not freezing, you wish you could have one last time.
Getting involved is a part of the high school experience too. Whether it be sports or clubs, being involved is something that is also great because that is where you can meet some of your best friends—I know I did.
Plus, it is a great way to get to know other students or your fellow classmates rather than just having them be people in your grade.
One of the last things I would write in that letter would be to just be yourself.
This is one of the most crucial things about high school that most people do not do. A lot of the time people will be afraid to show the world who they really are.
They think that people will judge them and decide to be someone they are not. When in the end, the only opinions that should matter should be your own and your closest friends.
Why worry about what other kids think when in reality, a lot of those kids you probably will not even see for years and possibly forever.
I would tell my high school self to just enjoy life as a high schooler because what people say is true; high school goes by in the blink of an eye.
I just cannot believe that they say college goes by quicker.
